MADISON (WRN) - Over 150 school programs received state grants this year in which teens helped other teens stay away from risky behaviors. The Department of Public Instruction gave out $143,000 to various groups from grade school through high school. Each received up to $1,000, and they were funded by surcharges from convicted drunk drivers. State school superintendent Tony Evers said the grants encouraged youngsters to come up with solutions to avoiding alcohol and drug use and other risky behaviors. He calls it “part of a school environment that supports healthy and resilient students.”
