(Holland, MI - WHTC News) - An all day stand-off yesterday at the Stratford Way apartments in Holland disrupted traffic for some, while disrupting life for others.

Police got an 11:30 AM call about a potentially suicidal and armed 21-year-old man in a unit at that Holland Heights complex and responded in force, blocking traffic on 16th Street heading out of the Tulip City for most of the afternoon, and rerouting school bus routes as a precaution. According to authorities, the man had apparently been despondent due to the break up of a relationship. It took nearly six hours, but negotiators were eventually able to talk the unnamed man into surrendering. There were no injuries.

The man was taken to Holland Hospital for a mental evaluation, and at this point, he probably won’t face any criminal charges, as the matter remains under investigation.

This is the second time in three months that a domestic dispute led to a large police presence at the Stratford Way complex. On January 7th, a 19-year-old Holland woman allegedly stabbed her live-in boyfriend, and Christina Ruiz remains in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting trial on felonious assault and marijuana possession charges.
