(Holland Twp. - WHTC News) - A normally peaceful Ottawa County neighborhood was the scene of a number of burglaries overnight.
Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 14 thousand block of Ridgewood Drive in Holland Township, about a half mile south of Quincy Park, on a report that several suspicious persons were seen taking property out of a residence there. When officers arrived, the group scattered on foot, and a police canine unit went about a mile before tracking a 19-year-old Holland Township man down and arresting him.
Sheriff’s Sergeant Keith Garvelink said that the group was involved in a mini-crime spree that apparently began earlier in the evening across 144th Avenue in a corresponding block of Twin Oaks Drive in Park Township. A number of homes and vehicles were broken into, and a suspect vehicle confiscated at the time of the incident reportedly had a number of items taken from those burglaries.
The unnamed suspect, believed to be a known gang member, is in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting arraignment, while his accomplices remain at large. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer.
