JANESVILLE, Wis. (WTAQ) - A former insurance executive in southern Wisconsin has been sentenced to almost 4 years in prison for embezzling over $1 million. 45-year-old Douglas Nickerson of Janesville admitted making false insurance claims to get the money from 2003 through ‘08. He was the property program manager for General Casualty of Sun Prairie.
At his sentencing Thursday, defense attorney Steven Kohn said Nickerson wanted to show people that he succeeded in life – and he spent money on what other people could not afford, like donations to youth sports leagues. But Federal Judge Barbara Crabb said Nickerson and his lawyer did not mention the real problem – his gambling addiction. The judge said it was so bad, that he put a good job at risk.
