WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – If you order a pizza tonight, you may get it delivered by a local firefighter.

Firefighters from Wausau, Weston, Schofield and Rib Mountain have teamed up with the Safe Kids Wisconsin coalition to deliver pizzas and increase awareness about fire safety this evening.

Some customers who order pizza from Cavolo's or Marco's will be randomly selected to get the pizza from a firefighter. Those who have a working smoke detector in their home will get the pizza for free. Those who do not have a working smoke detector will get one for free but will have to pay for the pizza.

“The goal behind the program is to spread the message of changing your smoke alarm batteries and to make sure that you're working,” said Aspirus Safe Kids coordinator Michelle Armstrong.

You should have at least one smoke detector on every level in your home and one outside each bedroom, Armstrong said. Smoke detectors should be checked and cleaned once a month to make sure they're working properly. They should be replaced every 10 years.
