GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A special meeting for the Green Bay School Board on Friday has been cancelled over appearent scheduling conflicts.
The closed-door meeting agenda included continued discussion on a controversial plan to require district teachers to put in more hours for classroom planning.
The teacher's union blasted the proposal, saying the district didn't talk with them about making the changes. The union says they were promised a meeting before the end of the school year to discuss any changes to the work day.
Last week after school was out, the district dropped a memo saying teachers would be required to work an extra 30 minutes a day without pay. The district also is taking away an hour of personal planning time and instead assigning 90 minutes a day of professional team building and collaborative initiatives.
Under the collective bargaining law change, the district has control over the workweek, and teachers don't have a role in the workday.
Teachers will now be putting in a full 8-hour day on top of other after school activities.
