HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Some hard decisions will need to be made byHolland’s leaders, and they won’t have Soren Wolff to guide them now.
The long-time City Manager retired in September after 23 years, and interim chief Greg Robinson told city council members during Saturday’s annual retreat that, if spending cuts aren’t made, the Tulip City could be facing a 1.4 million-dollar deficit when the fiscal 2013 financial year begins on July 1st. Wolff was able to keep the books balanced, without increasing the millage rate of just under 13 mills, during the final years of his tenure. In an interview with WHTC News, Mayor Kurt Dykstra believes that, to preserve this “sacred cow,” some hard decisions about basic services need to be made.
With a decision on Wolff’s permanent replacement not expected until Wednesday at the earliest, it should fall to Robinson to come up with a proposed spending plan for council to consider this spring.
