Girls prep round ball action last night saw Saugatuck lose to Lawrence, 44-40; Black River aced Algoma Christian, 71-21; and Calvary was put out by the Potter’s House, 46-41. This evening, Holland is at Union, Holland Christian is at Hamilton, West Ottawa is at Grandville, Zeeland East hosts Wyoming Park; and Zeeland West travels to Wyoming Rogers.

The Red Wings look to extend their own NHL-record home-ice winning streak to 22 straight games when Nashville comes to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit this evening. Coverage on 1450 WHTC follows high school basketball.

Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews each had a goal and an assist in Chicago’s four-goal outburst in the first 9:38 of last night’s game at New York, and the visiting Blackhawks went on to beat the Rangers, 4-2, to snap a nine-game losing streak. The Hawks skate at Columbus tomorrow.

Grand Valley State’s basketball teams both lost at Findlay last night. In the opener, Claire Aubry scored 21 points as the Oilers handed the Lady Lakers their seventh straight loss, 78-67. Kyle Caiola and Brad Piehl each had a dozen as the Findlay men beat the Lakers in the finale, 68-57. Both of GVSU’s teams are in Detroit to battle Wayne State tomorrow.

In state major-college basketball last night, Michigan State took out visiting Wisconsin, 69-55.

Carlos Boozer had 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Luol Deng also scored 23 with 10 assists, as they led the Bulls to an 89-80 triumph over visiting Boston last night. Chicago welcomes New Jersey to the United Center tomorrow.
