WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – A Democratic lawmaker could announce this week that she is running against Republican state Senator Pam Galloway in a recall election.

Representative Donna Seidel (D-Wausau) has scheduled a news conference for 10 a.m. tomorrow at UW-Marathon County for what is being described as a “special announcement regarding state Senate recall elections.”

An invitation to the news conference surfaced over the weekend on the Facebook page of local Democratic activist Christine Bremer Muggli.

Seidel was first elected to the state Assembly in 2004. She has been re-elected every two years since. Prior to her legislative career, Seidel spent 15 years as Marathon County's clerk of courts.

Former Marathon County Democratic party chair Jeff Johnson announced January 12th that he would also run against Galloway. If Seidel does enter the race, it would set up a Democratic primary.

Democrats have targeted Galloway, a freshman lawmaker from Wausau, for recall in part for her decision to vote in favor last year of limits on collective bargaining for most public union employees.

Recall organizers turned in more than 21,000 signatures this month in their bid to recall Galloway. The Government Accountability Board has two months to verify whether there are 15,647 valid signatures to order the recall.
