PRESS RELEASE (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland police arrested two people early Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, after being alerted that several stolen vehicles from the Kent County were heading toward Holland, according to a statement emailed to media by Holland Police Capt. Keith Mulder.
Grand Rapids Police and the Kent County Sheriff’s deputies had been investigating and sharing information with area agencies on several stolen vehicles.
Holland officers spotted some of the suspected vehicles driving recklessly from US-31 onto Washington Avenue, and attempted to stop one vehicle, which pulled over. Two suspects fled on foot, each with handguns, police said. One tossed a handgun away moments before being captured by police; the other suspect was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a handgun police said.
The recovered stolen vehicle and one suspect were turned over to the Grand Rapids Police Department. The second suspect is in Ottawa County Jail, awaiting charges related to carrying a concealed weapon, receiving and concealing stolen property, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
This incident remains under investigation.
