HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The true meaning of Memorial Day was observed in Holland and elsewhere across the country today, May 31, 2021.
Although there was not a parade, organizers such as former Holland City Councilman Craig Rich were able to stage a commemoration event at Pilgrim Home Cemetery, honoring those who have fallen while serving their country, but also those who are still with us whose numbers are going down.
“We’re losing so many every year now,” Rich said on WHTC’s “Talk of the Town” during an appearance last week, “especially that World War II generation – it’s almost gone. The Korean (Conflict) generation was only a few years later and they’re quickly passing away. Frankly, the Vietnam (Conflict) veterans are getting a little older too, so we take the opportunity to honor those who have fallen, but also to honor those who are still there and who can stand up and be recognized.”
