HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 63-year-old Holland woman went by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after an explosion and boat fire in the Village of Spring Lake. Seven others aboard the boat, including several children, were not physically injured, according to police.
Deputies were summoned at 1:32 p.m. to the 800 block of West Savidge Street, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jonathan Knott, where they learned a 40-year-old Rockford man boating on Spring Lake pulled his 1987 Four Winns vessel into a marina to refuel.
After filling the fuel tanks of the Four Winns boat, the Rockford man attempted starting the engine when a minor explosion happened in the engine compartment.
Bystanders used fire extinguishers to extinguish the blaze as public safety officials raced to the scene.
