WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – The battle for an infrastructure package coming out of Congress and becoming a reality this summer is apparently far from over.
US Senators were expected back on Capitol Hill on Sunday (Aug. 1, 2021) to consider a trillion-dollar measure that would fix roads, bridges and other related matters nationwide. This comes after 16 Republicans sided with majority Democrats to take up the bill.
However, as Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga of Zeeland says, this measure may not clear the House once Senators give their endorsement.
“Some of my Democrat colleagues say that there’s a real effort from some folks to, basically, blow it up,” he said on “WHTC Morning News” during his weekly appearance last Thursday, “because they don’t believe that it is sufficient enough, that it’s not ‘big enough.’”
Huizenga may be referring to a $3.5 trillion bill that would cover a wide swath of legislative priorities ranging from child care to climate change that Republicans say is too large.
