HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 64-year-old Hudsonville man dozed off while driving, crashing into a ditch, which injured one of his two passengers, according to Ottawa County Sgt. Jon Smoes.
The crash happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, on Chicago Drive, east of Balsam Drive in Hudsonville.
Smoes indicated the man had been driving a 2014 Nissan Quest west on Chicago Drive when he fell asleep. The Quest drove over the median and into a ditch. The 64-year-old Hudsonville woman in the car went by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids for treatment of what police called “non life-threatening injuries. ” The driver, and a 4-year-old girl also in the car, were not physically hurt, according to Smoes, who said the driver was ticketed.
