Glenn Allen Atkins, 79 of Hamilton, Michigan, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021, at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Born November 8, 1942, in Douglas, Michigan, he was the son of the late Glenn and Violet (Langley) Atkins and the husband of the late Janet Atkins. Glenn graduated from Fennville High School and went on to Western Michigan University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1967.
Wanting to serve his country, he entered the United States Army in 1969 and served honorably through 1971. During his time in the Army, Glenn earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and spent time in Germany as a tank commander, a position that he was very proud to serve. Once returning from service, Glenn took a position as a social worker for the state of Michigan, where he worked for 20 plus years before retiring.
During his youth, Glenn was an avid hunter and a wonderful musician, playing guitar in a band. He also enjoyed acting and participated in the theater during his high school and college days. Being a quiet man, this sometimes came as a surprise to those who knew him well. Though he was quiet, Glenn was always a very generous person. If someone needed something, he was quick to assist them in order to enhance their lives. Thinking of others seemed to come easy to him. Even though his family went in different directions geographically, they were good about staying in touch and staying connected, never feeling alone. His family and friends felt blessed to have him in their lives.
Glenn is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Sharon Atkins.
Per his request, cremation has taken place, and never wanting to be the focus of attention, no services are planned.
