HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Snowmelt special assessment, broadband, updating the alcohol ordinance and rezoning two properties are just a few items on Zeeland City Council’s agenda for tonight’s study and business meetings. Among the items on the agenda for each meeting:
- Rezoning requests 349 E. Main and 405 E. Main avenues from Highway Commercial to Central Business
- Snowmelt installation special assessment for sidewalks of Main Avenue from State Street through the parcel at 421 E. Main Avenue, including the crosswalks at the intersections of State Street, Church Street, Centennial Street, Maple Street and the mid-block crossing between Elm Street and Church Street;
- Issue Media Group (IMG) contract renewal, for $6,000. IMG is the parent company to multiple online news magazines, including The Lakeshore WM.
- Alcohol Ordinance 2nd Reading – Resolution of Approval
- COVID-19 Leave Bank: Members of city council will also review fiber broadband strategies, the COVID-19 leave policy for employees, put in place early in the pandemic but ended last summer as the number of people getting ill fell significantly. City officials have noted the spike in people getting ill, and want to re-institute a plan that would support employees if they or a family member contracts some form of COVID-19.
- City officials will also review language to continue a contract with Zeeland Charter Township for library services. The current contract expires Dec. 31, 2021, according to city documents. Terms of the 2022-24 agreement include a $15,000 raise, to $150,000 for 2022. “While this is a significant increase, this contribution aligns with those made by other municipalities receiving services through the Howard Miller Public Library,” wrote Kevin Plockmeyer, assistant city manager and finance director and Library and Community Center Director Heather Wood-Gramza in a memo to council members.
The study session is set for 5:30 p.m. at Zeeland City Hall. The business meeting is set for 7 p.m. today, Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at 21 S. Elm St. in Zeeland. The agendas and complete meeting packet are online at cityofzeeland.com/AgendaCenter/City-Council-5.
