ALLEGAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A motorist in Allegan County is in the hospital with serious injuries after crashing into a lake.
Around 8 p.m. Friday, February 5, Allegan County Central Dispatch received a call saying that a vehicle crashed in Lee Township and that the vehicle was upside down and partially submerged in water. The caller further advised that at least one person was trapped in the vehicle.
County deputies were first to arrive on scene and immediately entered the water and were able to force entry into the vehicle. The Lee Township contract deputy was then able to enter the vehicle and remove the single trapped occupant.
After getting up a steep embankment away from the lake, the driver was turned over to Lee Township Fire and Life EMS to be transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Deputies and Lee Township Fire then conducted additional searches to confirm there were no additional victims.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the citizen who also entered the water and provided assistance to the driver prior to deputies arriving on scene.
