ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 8, 2022) – A 64-year-old man was sentenced to 35 to 50 years in prison in Allegan County Circuit Court on Monday in the 1989 death of his adoptive daughter in a Hamilton residence.
Dennis Bowman had pleaded no contest in December to second-degree murder charges. He admitted to killing 14-year-old Aundria Bowman after fighting with the girl at the top of a staircase, striking her and causing her to fatally fall down the stairs. Dennis Bowman then hid the body and claimed that the teen had run away. He recanted his story three years ago while serving two life sentences in Virginia for the rape and murder of another woman in 1980, and is expected to serve his Michigan sentences in that commonwealth.
“Every victim deserves to have a voice, to have justice.” Allegan County Prosecutor Myrene Koch said in a press briefing after the sentencing by Judge Margaret Bakker. “Through the dedication of the law enforcement team (that worked on the case), we are grateful to have that in this case for Aundria.”
As a result of Dennis Bowman’s confession, local authorities were able to find and excavate Aundria Bowman’s body at that Hamilton
residence.
