HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Each week, Shandra Martinez, The Lakeshore’s managing editor, talks with WHTC production director Jared Fritsma about people and organizations making a positive difference along the Lakeshore.

- Climbing to new heights after kidney donation. In her own words, Holland native Emily Polet-Monterosso describes the experience of climbing the world's tallest free-standing mountain with a group of climbers who had one thing in common — each had donated a kidney to someone else.
- Retired teacher donates $1M to bring “pure joy” to Michigan community. Retired teacher Frank Kraai is giving his life savings of $1 million to bring an ice skating rink to downtown Holland that he hopes will bring “pure joy” to the residents.
- State training grants help businesses develop stronger workforces. Since 2013, the state has used Going PRO Talent Funds to inject millions of dollars into the West Michigan economy for short-term training in high-demand occupations.
- Plan for Muskegon community resource center, day care gains support, Muskegon Rescue Mission is moving closer to its vision of opening a facility that brings services under one roof and will house an affordable, high-quality preschool and day care facility for low-income families and others.
- Group supporting local Afghan refugees among 7 awarded CFHZ grants. Foundation awards $125,000 in grants to seven organizations helping the Holland/Zeeland area thrive. L’Dor V’Dor: Generations of Muskegon’s Jewish Community

This exhibit celebrates the history of Jews in Muskegon, exemplified by Congregation B’nai
Israel, which was founded in 1888. Learn about Judaism Congregation B’nai Israel by exploring
