GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 19, 2022) – A 33-year-old man from Holland will stand trial on charges stemming from the stabbing death of his mother-in-law nearly two years ago.
A scheduled hearing on Monday about a possible plea deal for David Malcolm McCoy before Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing was postponed, with the case now headed for a jury trial slated for a yet-to-be-announced date. No word from the court or from the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office as to what led to the collapse of the deal, as the case has been held up due to COVID 19 health protocols by the circuit court.
McCoy is accused of slaying 52-year-old Michelle Speck in a north side hotel room on May 14, 2020. He was arrested hours later near South Bend after he was spotted driving the victim’s vehicle.
McCoy is facing open murder and habitual offender charges.
