HOLLAND, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – The City of Holland is looking to revise rules to allow food trucks more often in downtown.
Various city departments have been working to clarify the city ordinances related to the operation of food trucks within Holland city limits. Currently food trucks are only permitted to operate on private property as part of an existing outdoor cafe, with the exception of Tulip Time.
Staff is now proposing that food trucks be allowed on privately-held property for the purpose of a special event only. That would allow private businesses to host a food truck for an event on their property, such as a client appreciation night.
Under the ordinance, a special event is defined as lasting no more than 24 hours with a maximum of six events per calendar year.
Food trucks would require a permit from the City Clerk’s office and administrative approval from the City.
The updated ordinance language has gone to the Holland City Council for the first reading, after approval by both the Principal Shopping District and Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors.
