Paul’s life was filled with the love of family and close friends. He was an active member of Pillar Church where he served on the church council and the hospitality committee. Paul enjoyed spending time and talking with his children and grandchildren about their lives and sharing stories about his own adventures. He is best remembered by his family for his love of Dachshunds and cars, talking about fishing, drinking Pepsi, and eating peanut M&M’s. Paul served as an Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputy for over 30 years and was a member of the Park Township Fire Department. During his retirement, he enjoyed working for Quality Car Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marilee, and his brother Donald Vroon.
He is survived by his children, Scott and Julie Vroon, Kathy and Dan Terpstra; 6 grandchildren, Jayne and Cory Schmidt, Sean Terpstra and Mary Miller, Jeffrey and Brielle Vroon, Nathan and Emilie Terpstra, Sarah and Brad Rhoads, Jacob Vroon and Morgan Bush; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth and Marvin Lanser; in-laws, Virginia Vroon, Bruce and Jan Homkes, Karen and Merle Vander Sluis, Larry and Carol Homkes, Rick and Darlene Homkes; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Pillar Church, 57 E. 10th St. Holland with Revs. Jon Brown and Chris DeVos officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to Holland Christian Schools or Pillar Church.
