DOUGLAS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 28, 2022) – The newest school in the Saugatuck Public Schools district has an open house tonight.
No, Douglas Elementary School has been around since 1867, but the structure off of West Randolph Street in Douglas was part of a $35.6 renovation effort funded by voter approval of a bond issue 16 months ago. Among the improvements are upgrades to security, larger classrooms, restrooms that are compliant with federal Americans with Disabilities Act standards, new upper and lower commons, an outdoor classroom and much more.
From 6:30 to 8 PM, the public will get a chance to see the changes made, according to Principal Michelle Gust.
There is still work to be done in four classrooms, work that should be completed by year’s end.
Meanwhile, the renovation of Saugatuck Middle/High School that began last April continues for nearly two more years.
