ZEELAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Congressman Bill Huizenga, the Zeeland Republican, will be returning to Washington D.C., but representing the newly redrawn 4th Congressional District. Major news organizations projected his win over Democrat Joseph Alfonso less than three hours after polls closed.
When the districts were redrawn, U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, who has served for 18 terms, was put into the same district as Huizenga, who is currently representing the 2nd Congressional District. In April, Upton announced that he would not seek re-election.
This will be Huizenga’s seventh term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Republican John Moolenaar was projected the winner in the 2nd Congressional District, with incumbent Republican Tim Walberg claiming the redrawn 5th Congressional District.
