HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 1, 2023) – Residents in the city of Holland are expected to decide on the future of the Tulip City’s waterfront this spring.
During Wednesday night’s biweekly business meeting, the City Council will vote on approving ballot language authorizing the sale of the James DeYoung plant site off of Pine Avenue, as well as property off of Kollen Park Drive, as part of the Waterfront Holland development initiative. Geenen DeKock Properties is looking to move the Verplank Dock operations to the DeYoung site in a “land swap,” converting the current dock site to a mixed-used development that expands public access to Lake Macatawa.
Such expansion that would give downtown Holland a footprint to that lakeshore has been a dream of many, including Sixth Ward Councilman Dave Hoekstra.
If the ballot language is approved by Council, voters will decide on the land sale during the scheduled May 2nd election, with the matter needing no less than 60 percent approval.
Among the other items on this evening’s meeting agenda is approval of text amendment to the city’s Unified Development Ordinance. The 6 PM meeting is in Council Chambers at Holland City Hall. An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
