HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 22, 2023) – Another step in the Holland City Fiber project could be taken this afternoon.
During a special 4 PM meeting, the board of the Holland Board of Public Works will be asked to approve a contract with EX2 Technology for designing and constructing the fiber optic passing networks that will fully wire the Tulip City with Internet access. The agreement would be for at least around $16 million, with the ability to expand to $17.5 million depending on contingencies.
The deal stems from the passage last August of a $30 million bond proposal that would be funded by a 1.5 mill levy over a 25-year period. EX2’s bid was the second lowest submitted among five firms vying for the contract, and both BPW staffers and retained project engineer CTC Technology reviewed all of the bids before making this recommendation.
According to BPW General Manager Dave Koster, EX2 can start engineering efforts next month should the contract be approved, with construction slated for this fall.
The deal is among a number of items the BPW board will consider during the meeting at the utility’s offices (625 Hastings Ave.). An online link to the meeting agenda and supporting documents is here.
