Reymundo Mascorro, age 71, of West Olive died Friday, May 19, 2023, at his home.
After a 2.5-year valiant fight against glioblastoma, Ray passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2023.
Before retirement, Ray was employed by the Michigan Department of Corrections as the inspector. After retirement, Ray was the head of security for West Ottawa High School and made a positive impact on many students’ lives.
Ray was a family man who was immensely proud of his daughters and granddaughters. He was quick to make a joke and even as his tumor slowly robbed him of his ability to speak, he never lost his love for laughter. The master of making a great playlist, he enjoyed bourbon, golf, and live music, and was an avid University of Michigan football fan. As his friends and former co-workers can attest, he was always quick to offer help to anyone in need and no task was ever too big or small.
British cars were Ray’s forte from the age of 16. In 1976 Ray bought a 1972 light yellow convertible TR6 Triumph and spent the next 20 years restoring it. For the next 30 years, many fond memories were made driving it around Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cristobal and Pioquinta Mascorro and baby sister, Maria.
Ray is survived by his wife of 39 years Sherry Mascorro, daughters Meaghan Mascorro, and Marcella (Rob) Grashorn, and granddaughters, Isla Raye and Cora Laurene. He is also survived by his brother, Oscar (Pat) Mascorro, and his sister, Amanda Stephens. His brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Ruth Berghorst, Mary and Mark Bleeker, Susan and Doug LePoire, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church, 480 152nd Avenue in Holland. Father Michael Burt will be officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, May 23 at Dykstra Funeral Homes-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue in Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church or Harbor Humane Society.
