EAST LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 26, 2023) – The Lakeshore was well represented when the Michigan Education Association announced its 2023 MEA Scholarship winners on Friday.
The state’s largest teachers’ union awarded $1,400 to 23 public school students who excelled in the classroom, participated in extra-curricular activities, and were active in school and community services. Scholarship fund trustees sifted through 422 applications before making their decisions.
Among the new winners were James Baer of Holland High, KayeLee Martens from Wayland Union High, and Makenzie Meyer of Allendale High. Among the 19 repeat winners, who each earn a $700 scholarship, are current Grand Valley State University students Riley Hohlbein of Shepherd and Jacquelyne Thompson of Anchor Bay.
Over the past 26 years, the MEA Scholarship fund has awarded over 800 scholarships totaling nearly $913,000 to state public high school graduates.
