Marianne “Mimi” was born in Flint, MI on March 19, 1957. She was raised in nearby Grand Blanc, where she graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1975. After completing high school, she went on to barber school in Flint. Eventually, Marianne planted roots in West Michigan before moving to Milwaukee, WI where she planted more roots. Once her children grew up and moved out of the house, Marianne and her husband, Chris, moved to Naples, FL to enjoy the sweet sunshine and an early retirement.
She was a barber by trade but also had various other jobs over the years, all of which involved people and being social. Her favorite and most rewarding job though, was to be a mother and homemaker. She was an incredible cook and could often be found in the kitchen with an apron on and some tunes in the background. Some hobbies of hers included reading, shopping for others, bike riding, playing tennis, attending shows, and visiting museums and zoos. She created many social clubs in her community, always looking to be friendly and include others, which was such a strength of hers. Marianne also very much loved to travel and was fortunate to go to many wonderful spots, such as; France, Spain, Germany, England, Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Singapore, and Hawaii. If you asked her though, she would have said her favorite place to be was with her family.
Marianne is survived by her husband of 26 years, Chris Weyland, her children and grandchildren, Stephanie and Kevin Stein (Bradley, Caroline, Samuel, and Sawyer), Tyler and Andrea Lubbers (Lukas and Cameron) and Katie and Lionel Lim (Zac and Jacqui); brother and sister Scott and Laura Smith and John and Lisa Nemazi, along with several nieces and nephews. Marianne was preceded in death by her mother Norma Smith, father Douglas Smith, brother Cortney Smith, and in-laws Grover and Betty Weyland.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland, MI. A celebration of life will take place in Naples, FL at a later date.
