KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State Police are searching for two suspects following a high-speed chase in Paw Paw that ended in a crash in Berrien County early Thursday morning on June 15.
MSP troopers with the Paw Paw Post got the call around 2 a.m. of a suspect vehicle that was involved in an armed robbery on the east side of the state in Farmington Hills, with all people inside the car believed to be armed and dangerous.
About a hour later, troopers located the vehicle heading westbound on I-94 in Kalamazoo County. When they tried to pull it over, the vehicle moved away at a high rate of speed, reaching speeds more than 130 mph.
According to MSP, stop sticks were deployed in Berrien County to flatten the suspect vehicle’s tires, causing the driver to lose control and crash into trees near Coloma. The three suspects then got out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
Police were able to arrest the driver, a 22-year-old man from South Holland, Illinois, who was taken to the Van Buren County jail.
Authorities however, are still searching for the other two suspects, whom investigators believe may have been picked up by someone else in the area.
State police say there are no credible threats to the public, and that anyone with information is asked to call the MSP Paw Paw Post at 269-657-5551, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-7867, or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
