ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 28, 2023) – A top state honor has come to the Lakeshore.
On Thursday, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development awarded its Exporter of the Year to Zeeland Farm Services. A committee reviewed export growth over a three-year period, along with job creation from exporting and the ability to enter new markets, in making its determination. Eligible companies for this honor need to have more than half of its product be grown, processed or manufactured in Michigan, with exports contributing a substantial amount to its overall growth.
“Companies like Zeeland Farm Services are an example of why international buyers continue to view Michigan as the best place for food and agricultural businesses. Zeeland’s work helps to ensure that ‘Made in Michigan’ is recognized around the world.” – MDARD Director Tim Boring.
“Being named the 2023 Michigan Ag Exporter of the Year is a tremendous honor for our entire team at Zeeland Farm Services. Nothing happens without a lot of people making it happen as a team. If it wasn’t for everyone involved, we wouldn’t have the success that we have. It’s rewarding to work with people around the world, from different cultures, to help meet their needs with products made right here in Michigan and the USA.” – ZFS Board Chairman Cliff Meeuwsen.
Founded in 1950, Zeeland Farm Services began exporting soybeans nearly 25 years ago, sending its product to much of the Western Hemisphere, as well as to Europe and the Pacific Rim. It also sends out corn, soybean oil, hulls and other agricultural commodities.
