GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 27, 2023) – Another step in the dream of connecting Grand Rapids to the Lake Michigan Shore through non-motorized paths was taken on Wednesday.
Officials of the parks departments of both Ottawa and Kent counties, along with civic and governmental leaders, formally unveiled a new one-mile segment of the Idema Explorers Trail. The Jenison Mill Segment, which includes several boardwalks, connects the western edge of the Kent Trails system near the Grandville Water Treatment Plant with the eastern edge of Ottawa County’s portion of the Grand River Greenway. The merging is symbolized by the Secchia Gateway Arch, in honor of the late Michigan State University patron Peter Secchia, whose dream of the Greenway has been a major factor in the development of the multi-million-dollar project.
