Gary A. Horstmanshof died 11-7-2023 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Floreen Kay Essenberg with whom he had two sons: Dr. Douglas A. and Micheal J. Both are married to loving wives Tiffany and Stephanie respectively and together have five grandchildren: Sarah, David, Isabella, Andrew, and Zoe Horstmanshof. Gary is also survived by his two sisters: Diane with husband Randy Elve and Gayle with husband Richard Vorenkamp, his two sisters-in-law: Ruth Essenberg and Phila Essenberg, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, great-nephews, and great nieces.
Gary taught in Battle Creek public schools in the Special Education department at the Highschool level from the 1970’s to 2003. He was a beloved teacher and friend to his students.

Visitation will be 2-4 pm Monday, November 13, 2023, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland, and from 9:30-10:45 am Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at First Byron Christian Reformed Church, 85641 Byron Center Ave, Byron Center, MI, with the funeral service to follow at 11 am.
