ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 6, 2024) – The risks taken by those in blue, brown or black to protect the public is also shared by those on four legs.
Tuesday night’s stabbing of a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety police dog by a suspect attempting to avoid being taken into custody is the latest such incident involving a canine suffering injury or death while on duty.
In an attempt to protect those police dogs, a non-profit group called Vested Interest in K9s Incorporated has distributed over 53 hundred bullet and stab protective vests, along with other complementary apparatus, to law enforcement entities nationwide at a value of nearly seven million dollars over the past 15 years. The office of Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker recently received such a vest for its K-9 Knox.
More information on Vested Interest in K9s is here.
