ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 18, 2024) – Parking, phones and a strategic action plan are among the items before the Zeeland City Council when it meets on Monday night.
During the 7 PM biweekly business meeting, the governing panel will be asked to approve a nearly $54,000 contract with Sentinel to overhaul the city’s municipal phone system. The current setup is nearly two years past its expiration date, with no updates available, and Sentinel’s package was the best from three vendors who had put forward bids. City staffers are looking for $55,400 to be budgeted in total for the project.
With no public response so far to the contrary, City Council will be asked to approve on second and final reading an amendment to revise Zeeland’s parking laws, which would include adjustments to overnight parking restrictions, setting four-hour limits for downtown public parking lots during regular business hours, increasing parking fees for downtown property owners, and making those who are 30 days or more delinquent in paying parking tickets subject to civil infractions rather than be subject to arrest warrants.
During the 6 PM study session beforehand, City Manager Tim Klunder will review with council members a draft for the 2024 Strategic Action Plan. He’s looking to have a final document ready for consideration in early April.
Both the study session and business meeting for the Zeeland City Council will be in chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). A link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
