OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 27, 2024) – One daytime drama has apparently concluded at the Fillmore Street Complex.
Following an 11-hour-plus closed door special meeting on Monday, the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners reached a agreement stemming from litigation filed against it and the county by Administrative Health Officer Adeline Hambley. All that the county disclosed in a Tuesday statement that efforts to remove her from her position will end and that she will remain in that position; the lawsuit will be dismissed with no financial payment made to her; Muskegon County Circuit Court Judge Jenny McNeill, who is overseeing the litigation case after all the justices at the 20th Circuit Court in Grand Haven recused themselves, will determine whether attorney fees will be awarded in the matter; and any future personnel action involving Hambley will be reviewed by a three-person arbitration panel through the end of this year.
Hambley, who was appointed 15 months ago to her position by the previous Board of Commissioners, was targeted for removal by the current board at its initial administrative meeting on January 3, 2023.
Still ongoing is the situation involving Administrator John Gibbs, with the Board expected to resume a closed door session with him and his attorney during this Thursday evening’s scheduled biweekly meeting at the Fillmore Street Administration Building (12220 Fillmore Street). The two sides met last Thursday for several hours before Gibbs was placed on paid administrative leave.
