HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 9, 2024) โ Itโs time to be stepping out as the 95th renewal of Hollandโs annual signature event heads toward a weekend finish.
The sixth day of the Tulip Time Festival on Thursday begins with the Tulip Immersion Garden at Beechwood Church, followed by historic walking tours at Window on the Waterfront; Tall Ship Dockside Tours at Boatwerks East Dock; Art in Bloem Fine Art Exhibit at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place; the Tulip Time Quilt Show in the Midtown Center; the Carnival off of the Eighth Street Marketplace; and Dutch Dancing on 8th Street downtown.
That means that the main street through the heart of the Tulip City is blocked off for the Gentex Kinderparade, with principal Audra Bolhuis representing Waukazoo Elementary, as the school in the West Ottawa district, which celebrates its 150th anniversary, is the paradeโs Grand Marshal. This is the third year that the festival is down to two parades, as the Wednesday promenade and Tulip Time Luncheon were casualties of health protocols from the COVID 19 outbreak that wiped out the 2020 festival and curtailed the 2021 event, according to Tulip Time volunteer coordinator Kim VanderMollen.
The Volksparade label is now a part of Saturdayโs parade, but the Thursday procession is really the true combination of the two weekday events.
Audio PlayerCoverage of the Gentex Kinderparade begins at 1:30 PM on 99 7/1450 WHTC.
Audio PlayerAlready sold out on this Thursday are the VIP Tours, Floral Arranging at Huisman Flowers, the Dutch Lunch and Dance Performance at Evergreen Commons, a performance of On Golden Pond at the Holland Community Theatre, and the dusk Tulip Time Photo Walk at Windmill Island Gardens.
This evening, the Texas Tenors perform in concert at Central Wesleyan Church, with tickets still available. An online link to all of Tulip Time activities is here.
