BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 18, 2024) – For the second time in just over 24 hours, Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies and other first responders were called to a crash on 72nd Avenue northeast of Zeeland.
Unlike the Friday morning collision that claimed the life of a 28-year-old Wyoming woman, this smash up around 9:45 AM at 72nd Avenue near Port Sheldon Street resulted in the hospitalization of a 72-year-old Coopersville man who was riding in a northbound van that apparently drove through a stop sign and was hit by a westbound sedan. The force of the collision caused the van to go into a nearby ditch, and rescue workers had to extricate the injured man out of the vehicle before he was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The apparent at-fault motorist, a 55-year-old Coopersville woman, was not hurt, while the sedan driver, a 60-year-old Hudsonville man, was treated for bumps and bruises at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
