LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 28, 2024) – Another link in strengthening bonds between law enforcement and students has been made in the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
A deputy was among 32 officers from state, county, local and tribal departments that completed last Friday a five-day, 40-hour training session in Lansing on student/juvenile psychology, classroom management, and public speaking. They participated in the state police’s Teaching Educating and Mentoring School Liaison Program that aims to help youngsters protect themselves from crime.
The TEAM curriculum has been implemented in over 250 school districts statewide, as well as in several other states. Ottawa County Undersheriff Eric DeBoer says deputies are a familiar sight in area schools.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office also had a deputy attend this session.
