BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 13, 2024) – Eight persons in all were injured after a passenger vehicle drove into the path of a dump truck northeast of Zeeland late on Tuesday morning.
No names were disclosed by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill following the crash on 72nd Avenue at Tyler Street around 11:15 AM. The eastbound passenger vehicle had come to a halt at a stop sign when the driver, identified only as a man in his 60’s, apparently moved forward into the path of the southbound truck, driven by a 58-year-old Jenison man, who had the right of way and couldn’t avoid a collision.
All in the passenger vehicle, with two adults in their 60’s and five children between the ages of three and 10 years old, were reported as injured. The youngsters went to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, with two critically hurt and three others in stable condition. The conditions of the adults were not immediately disclosed. The trucker was also taken to an unnamed hospital for treatment of an arm ailment.
The intersection was closed for several hours as a result of the collision. The investigation into the incident continues, and anyone who may have information is asked to contact Ottawa County Central Dispatch (800-249-0911).
