HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 24, 2024) – A 52-year-old Zeeland man and his 18-year-old son were hospitalized in a Wednesday evening two-vehicle crash on Holland’s north side.
No names were disclosed by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Shane Ryke, and he and other first responders were dispatched to the junction of US-31 and Quincy Street around 6:45 PM on a report of a SUV colliding with a semi tractor-trailer. Witnesses say that the eastbound passenger vehicle was attempting to cross the divided highway on a green light when the southbound rig apparently drove through the red light and smashed into the SUV.
The man and his son were trapped inside of the smaller vehicle, and after being extricated by rescue workers, were taken to Holland Hospital in serious condition for treatment of what Ryke called non-life threatening injuries. The man’s 49-year-old wife was not hurt, nor was the 34-year-old trucker from Glenview, Illinois.
Southbound US-31 was closed for several hours as a result of the crash, which remains under investigation.
