Grace Anna was born November 6, 1927 in McBride, MI at her grandmother’s house on her mother’s birthday to Earl and Nellie Genevieve (Hockstra) Zimmerman. Many years they enjoyed celebrating together. In her early childhood, she attended a one room school for 2 years, then from 2nd grade to 8th grade at Hubbarston. Her family were tenant farmers, surviving the depression by growing what they needed. She graduated from Carson City High School in 1945 after the end of World War II. She would eventually live with a Dr. in Lansing, doing cooking and housekeeping so she could attend community college. In 1946 she married Marle Spencer Clark. He passed away in 2001 after 54 years of marriage. Grace Anna would continue to take college classes after marriage and eventually took a position with the State of Michigan Treasury Department as an accountant/auditor for the next 26 years, retiring in 1980. Her retirement years were spent in Ludington from 1980-1998, Charlotte from 1998-2016, and Holland to be closer to her daughter Donna from 2016 until her passing.
Grace Anna was preceded in death by her daughter Constance Parker; and brothers Larry (Carol) Zimmerman, James (Janice) Zimmerman, and Robert (Jean) Zimmerman
She is survived by her daughter Donna Marie (Dennis Edward) Brendahl; grandchildren Derrek (Jennifer) Brendahl, Darren (Kristi) Brendahl, Denise Brendahl, Earl Parker, Pamela Cline; 8 great grandchildren; brother Austin (Miriam) Zimmerman; many extended family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Grace Anna’s life will be Tuesday November 26 at 11:00 AM at at First Baptist Church in the Exit 57 Activity Building, 10010 E Carson City Road, Carson City.
