OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 9, 2024) – Now that voters five weeks ago gave Eric DeBoer a job promotion, the Ottawa County Sheriff-elect needs to find a new right-hand man.
On Monday, DeBoer announced that David Kok will become Undersheriff, effective on January 6th. He comes to the Fillmore Street Complex from Kent County, where he was the Police and Corrections Academy Director at Grand Rapids Community College. Kok has spent nearly a quarter of a century in law enforcement, with his time in the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, rising from the ranks to become a road patrol captain and chief deputy of the corrections division before his stint with GRCC.
DeBoer himself has had a meteoric rise in the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, having been named Undersheriff by Steve Kempker in January upon the retirement of Valerie Weiss, and then being endorsed by Kempker upon his retirement announcement this past spring. DeBoer defeated Ottawa County Republican Party-backed Jon Anderson in the August 6 GOP primary election, and ran unopposed in last month’s General Election.
