HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 27, 2024) – One person is in custody after a gunshot rang out in a Holland subdivision during the overnight hours on Friday morning.
According to authorities, Holland Department of Public Safety police officers were dispatched to an address off of Meadow Land Drive, in the Meadow Lanes complex west of Washington Avenue, around 2:40 AM on a report of a man wearing a red sweatshirt with a gun that had apparently discharged. Nobody was wounded, and there wasn’t any reported threat made to anyone.
A vehicle that may have been involved in the incident was spotted going north on Michigan Avenue, and officers attempted to pull it over, but it sped off through the downtown district, ignoring all traffic signals, and the chase was terminated, with the description of the suspect vehicle transmitted to other police agencies.
A short time later, the suspect vehicle crashed near the corner of James Street and 136th Avenue, and when Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, the vehicle was left abandoned. A canine unit was deployed, and a trail that followed into the nearby Leisure Estates Trailer Park failed to come up with any suspect. However, a second vehicle was stopped in that area, with a gun located inside, and an unnamed person was arrested on weapons charges and was awaiting arraignment in 58th District Court.
The Holland Department of Public Safety is continuing its investigation of the original incident, and anyone with any information is asked to call 616-355-1150, email through policetips@cityofholland.com, or contact Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536; text OCMTIP 7 message to 274637).
