ALLEGAN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 8, 2025) – While the drama continues in Ottawa County, the Allegan County Board hopes for a far more peaceful organizational session on Thursday.
The five-member panel will spend the morning voting on a new chairman and vice chairman, as Chairman Jim Storey was unseated in District 1 by Craig Van Beek, and Vice Chairman Dean Kapenga of District 3 had died in August. Brad Luebbers won that seat in November, while Scott Beltman of District 4 finished up last year in the number two role. Van Beek and Luebbers will join incumbents Beltman, Mark DeYoung and Gale Dugan for the next four years on the county board.
The 9 AM session will also include approving rules of organization, establishing meeting dates and times for 2025, and budget policy. The 1 PM business meeting will go over claims and other procedural items. This is a far cry from a similar organizational meeting by the Ottawa County Board on Tuesday, which turned into a nine-hour session due to disputes over a variety of matters.
