OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 15, 2025) – When the state has its next round of early voting for the gubernatorial election year of 2026, Ottawa County will change the way it conducts the nine-day period prior to the August 3rd Primary Election and the November 2nd General Election.
On Wednesday, Ottawa County Clerk/Register of Deeds Justin Roebuck announced that, after conferring with local clerks, the county will have the individual municipalities handle that early vote, instead of establishing four local centers, as was the case for the 2024 primary and general elections. He pointed out that Ottawa County had 13 percent of eligible voters cast ballots in the October 26-November 3 window, while neighboring Allegan County, which had the individual municipalities setup, had 24 percent.
Roebuck added that the county will still be involved for programming and testing of all equipment, training of election workers, troubleshooting and material support, managing and submitting early voting plans to the Michigan Secretary of State office, and handling state grant and reimbursement processes for the local jurisdictions.
