LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 16, 2025) – Will Bob Genetski take a second chance on the Laketown Township managerial position?
The decision is apparently in the hands of the current Allegan County Clerk/Register of Deeds as the township board on Wednesday unanimously approved a resolution offering him the job that Al Meshkin had held for 35 years before retiring on January 3rd. In November, that governing panel initially approved a similar resolution, only to have new members last Wednesday deciding to put on hold a proposed contract with Genetski, and submit an offer to Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman.
Two days later, Mersman instructed Ryan Cotton, the former Holland City Manager now with an independent firm retained by the township to assist in the job search, to take his name out of consideration, and Mersman submitted a formal letter to the township dated on Sunday to that effect.
Genetski, who has maintained his intention to take the managerial job if it is offered to him, has made no statement of any other sentiments since last week’s actions by the board. If he does accept the contract offer, which was initially set for $110,000 annually, the 48th Circuit Court in Allegan would be charged with appointing a new County Clerk/Register of Deeds, as he was elected to a third four-year term on November 5th.
Supervisor Steven Ringelberg has been handling the day-to-day operational duties of township government since Meshkin’s departure, and will be the point man for the municipality in working with Genetski on a contractual agreement.
There had been 44 initial applicants for the position. The township board has a special meeting set for next Thursday evening at 6:30 PM in the township hall (4338 Beeline Rd.).
