HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 26, 2025) – It’s as much a part of the Christmas holiday season as trees, tinsel, and Santa.
Shoppers have seen the Red Kettles of the Salvation Army, in real life as well as on the silver screen or the television set, for more than a century. Lt. Matt Winters is the pastor and administrator for the Salvation Army of Holland.
However, that traditional image has faded somewhat, as illustrated by the Salvation Army of Kent County announcing this past week that there has been enough donated through those iconic Red Kettles and online to trigger a complete match of $250,000, but the campaign is still about $100,000 shy of its $1.4 million goal, a month after it was supposed to end.
Winters says that the local chapter’s more modest target funding number has already been achieved.
And while the season of giving has passed, the need for giving hasn’t.
