HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 27, 2025) โ Four persons were treated for smoke inhalation following an overnight house fire on Monday morning near the Holland Heights neighborhood.
According to Department of Public Safety Captain of Fire Operations Chris Tinney, crews were dispatched to the area of Calvin Avenue and East 8th Street around 12:40 AM on a report of a blaze in a laundry room with pets still inside. When they arrived, the residents had already evacuated safely, and while putting out the flames in the single-story structure, the firefighters were able to rescue the trapped pets.
Tinney said that two adults who lived at the house were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation by responding AMR ambulance staffers, who also had to address similar issues involving two Holland DPS Police Officers who had entered the structure before the firefighters arrived and made sure all inside had evacuated. The animals were found to be in good condition by the ordeal.
The blaze was contained to the laundry area, but there was smoke that permeated the house. The Holland Fire Marshal initially determined that the fire was accidental in nature, and was mostly likely caused by a space heater running too close to combustible materials. No dollar estimate of damage caused by the incident was immediately determined.
