HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 24, 2025) – A 38-year-old Holland woman is in the Ottawa County Jail after a Monday arraignment on charges stemming from the death of her 17-year-old son at an apartment unit during the overnight hours of Friday morning.
Katie Austin Lee was denied bond after the hearing in Holland District Court on a single count of Open Murder and a single count of Resisting and Obstructing an Officer. A preliminary hearing date was set for March 11th.
Public Safety Police Services officers were dispatched to a unit in the Bay Pointe complex off of East 16th Street around 4:15 AM on a report of a “domestic incident.” They were met by the woman wielding a knife, and after several efforts to verbally have her drop the weapon, a Taser was deployed, and the woman was taken into custody.
Once inside of the unit, officers encountered the teen – Austin Dean Pikaart – who was dead at the scene, and “due to the suspicious nature of the incident,” according to Captain of Administrative Services Bob Buursma, detectives were called in to the matter.
